About the Register of Mortgaged Movable Property
Last updated: 13 July 2026.
The Register of Mortgaged Movable Property is a register for claims in movable property, where the lien is registered on the individual or the organisation to which the claim is directed.
The registration provides, among other things, legal protection for the creditor’s claim towards the debitor, and makes sure that Norwegian private individuals and organisations can secure loans for new investments with security in existing assets.
The startup of the Register of Mortgaged Movable Property coincided with the Mortgages Act of 1980 coming into effect, more specifically 1 January 1981. This register replaced the old trade registers or register of persons.
