The Register of Non-Profit Organizations

Bokmål Nynorsk

The Register of Non-Profit Organizations aims to improve and simplify the cooperation between non-profit organisations and the authorities. Associations, foundations and limited liability companies that are engaged in non-profit activities can register in the Register of Non-Profit Organizations. Organisations are not obliged to register in the Register of Non-Profit Organizations, but all organisations that meet the criteria are entitled to register.

To consider before you begin

Before you commence the registration in the Register of Non-Profit Organizations, you should consider the following:

  • Which category/categories are suitable for my organisation? See: Overview of categories for areas of activity (PDF, in Norwegian)
  • Do we wish to participate in the Grassroots share scheme?
  • Are we entitled to participate in the Grassroots share scheme (PDF)? See: Criteria for the Grassroots share scheme (PDF, in Norwegian)
  • Do we want our statutes/articles of associations to be registered and made available? It is important to note that if you register your statutes/articles of associations, your organisation will be obliged to update these in the event of any changes.
  • Do we wish to register accounting information? It is important to note that if you decide to register accounting information, your organisation will be obliged to submit its annual accounts.

Requirements before you start

Before you start completing the notification of registration in the Register of Non-Profit Organizations, the following documentation must be in place:

  • One-time codes, a registered password or a Smartcard for logging in to and signing in Altinn. You will find the one-time codes on your tax return, the tax deduction card or in a separate letter from Altinn (one-time codes can be ordered from Altinn). You may already have a Smartcard if you have a Norsk Tipping player card. If you are already registered as a user and have given your mobile phone number to Altinn, you can log in using a password and a one-time code sent to you by SMS.
  • Attachments as files on your computer – either as scanned copies or documents. The following documents should be available:
    • Statutes/articles of association
    • Memorandum of association, if available. If not, you can use a copy of if the minutes from the last annual meeting or a document from the county organisation/national organisation showing that the association is approved as a local organisation
    • Minutes from the annual meeting showing elections of board members
  • Name and national identity number of a contact person who the Brønnøysund Register Centre can contact in the event of enquiries to the association
  • Name and national identity number of all board members

The Grassrootshare

Registration in the Register of Non-Profit Organizations is a requirement to take part in the Grassrootshare. You will find further information about the requirements for participation in the Grassrootshare in a separate document (PDF, in Norwegian). Through the scheme, all of Norsk Tipping’s players can opt to give up to five per cent of their stake to a local club or an association.

The sooner the association is registered in the Register of Non-Profit Organizations, the sooner it may receive a grassroots share from Norsk Tipping’s players. Payments will be made three times a year, 1 January, 1 May and 1 September.

For further information, see Norsk Tipping’s pages about the Grassrootshare (in Norwegian).

Associations that are already registered in the Central Coordinating Register for Legal Entities

Associations that wish to register in the Register of Non-Profit Organizations must do so even if they are already registered in the Central Coordinating Register for Legal Entities (and have been assigned an organisation number). It is not necessary to re-register information that is already in the Central Coordinating Register for Legal Entities. On registration in Altinn, the system will only require information that is not already registered in the Central Coordinating Register for Legal Entities.
