About the Central Coordinating Register for Legal Entities (CCR)

The CCR is an important national common component that collects, preserves and makes available basic data about enterprises.
Main task
The CCR will promote efficient use and coordination of public information about various enterprises. The CCR is a central register for basic data, which registers basic information about enterprises. The information is called basic data and is used on a large scale across the public administration and among private actors. This is how the CCR contributes to simplification for both the enterprises and public administration.
What will be registered?
The CCR assigns a nine-digit organisation number to everyone being registered. In this way each enterprise will receive a unique identifier that can be reused by everyone, as well as simplify the exchange of information.
The basic data in the register may be described as central basic information used by many, such as business name, address, type of organisation, activity/branch and roles. The CCR contains basic data about various types of enterprises, sole proprietorship, companies, associations, municipalities, co-owners and others. The CCR is a condition for registration in many other registers, such as the Value Added Tax Register, the Register of Business Enterprises, the NAV Aa-register, the Foundation Register, the Business Register of Statistics Norway and the Register of Bankruptcies. Others may register voluntarily.
All information in the CCR is public domain with the exception of national ID number and d-number.
You have to pay a fee for a registration in the CCR.. This does not apply for registration of associations, youth and student enterprises.
How to use the information in the CCR?
Many are dependent on the information contained in the CCR. They are used accross the public administration and elsewhere in the community, both commercial and otherwise. The organisation number is a unique identifier that simplifies the reuse and the exchange of information. We provide data in various ways, including real time and services of open data, at the same time as we deliver daily changes in the CCR to a number of actors within both public administration and the private sector. Rights and roles in Altinn are based upon registered roles in the CCR.
As a national common component, the CCR also contributes with basic information that is reused in the administration when establishing and operating digital services.
The history behind the establishment
The CCR was established in 1995 and represented one of the most important efficiency measures in public administration at that time. Basic data from several basic registers were collected, and a common identifier was established; organisation number. Instead of each public agency sending its own spesific form to the enterprises, the CCR ensures that the information is available from one register.
