Registrations in the Central Marketing Exclusion Register
20012003

At the end of 2003 almost 600 000 private persons had registered
with the Central Marketing Exclusion Register to stop addressed
direct-mail advertising and telephone sellers. This is an
increase of more than 70 per cent compared to 2002. The main
reason for this increased interest is that this has been featured
on radio, TV and in newspapers a great deal. After special
media splashes registrations have poured in.
2001 was the first year of operations for the Central Marketing
Exclusion Register. A total of 233 863 persons were registered
then, but the number increased to 352 486 persons in 2002.
A whopping 99.6 per cent of those registered in the Central
Marketing Exclusion Register want to put a stop to telephone
sellers, while 60.6 per cent registered to stop direct-mail
advertising in the regular mail. Statistics show that 86.7
per cent also registered to stop advertising from humanitarian
and charitable organizations.
