New enterprises registered in 20022003 and the number
as of 31 December 2003

At the end of 2003 almost 322 000 business enterprises had
been registered in the Register of Business Enterprises. The
number of new registrations declined by 3.2 per cent.
The decline in the number of newly registered limited liability
companies continues. One possible reason for the lower number
of registrations may be the requirement for higher share capital.
The minimum capital to be paid in is now NOK 100 000 compared
to NOK 50 000 previously. As of 31 December 2003, 5300 limited
liability companies had not increased their share capital
to NOK 100 000.
We find increases in new registrations in sole proprietorships
and general partnerships. There has also been a large increase
in Norwegian divisions of foreign companies.
