The scenic coastal town of Brønnøysund is situated
in the extreme south of Nordland county, halfway between the
northern cape and Lindesnes. The town has approximately 5000
inhabitants with an additional 2500 inhabitants in the municipality.
Means of transportation are plenty in Brønnøysund.
The runway at Brønnøysund Airport has been extended
to 1200 metres and there are several daily flights both north-
and southbound. Riksvei 17, the highway from Steinkjer to
Bodø, passes Brønnøy municipality, and
there is also a ferry free connection to highway E6 and the
railroad to the east. The coastal liners arrive and depart
Brønnøysund twice a day.
The Brønnøysund Register Centre is the largest
work place in Brønnøy municipality with more
than 350 employees. The municipality is one of northern Norway's
most productive agricultural municipalities and a branch of
Nord-Norges Salgslag is situated here. Extensive mining is
also part of the economic life in the municipality. The company
Fjord Seafood is one of the main participants, both nationally
and internationally, in the fields of fish farming, processing
and export of salmon and salmon products.
