Every enterprise registered in the Central Coordinating Register
for Legal Entities is given a unique nine digit organization
number. This number is used as a means of identification for
the entities by most official registers containing business
related information, such as the Register of Employers, the Value Added Tax Register, the Register of Business
Enterprises, the Business Register of Statistics Norway, the
Corporate Taxation Data Register or the County Governors'
Register of Foundations. The Central Coordinating Register for Legal Entities and The Register of Bankruptcies are affiliated registers. All estates in bankruptcy are given an organization number.
The organization number allows for exchange of information
about the registered enterprises that recurs on official questionnaires
through the Central Coordinating Register for Legal Entities.
By enabling all authorities to use a joint register in order
to exchange information between themselves, form-filling becomes
easier for business people and others who have employees or
are engaged in economic activities. The administration is
relieved of receiving and processing the same information
in each individual authority.
